Following on from my previous posts about the number of people who hold an ISA, the size of the ISA market, and subscription by income band, this post looks into the number of individuals subscribing to ISAs in 2021/22, by age and sex.
Includes breakdowns for all ISAs, Cash ISAs only, Stocks & Shares ISAs only, and those with both.
Not surprisingly, the largest number of subscribers are in the 65 and over age group (6.3 million).
Females hold more ISAs than males (11.5 million vs 10.7 million).
Cash ISAs are more popular than Stocks & Shares ISAs across all age groups.
Youngest age group (under 25) holds 1.7 million ISAs.
Number of individuals with both Cash and Stocks & Shares ISAs is 613,780.
Subscription patterns vary by age and sex, with older individuals tending to hold higher market values.
Again unsurprisingly, older age groups (65+) hold the highest market values, with average values over £61,000 for both sexes.
Females hold more ISAs than males, but males have slightly higher average market values (£34,849 vs £31,819).
Majority of ISA holders are in the lower market value bands (£1-£9,999).
Youngest age group (under 25) has the lowest average market value (£7,698).
